ST. LOUIS CHAPTER # 22, Dennis Fetter, Secretary. A tradition was started many years ago in which
St. Louis Chapter # 22 would hold its meeting nearest to Presidents’ Day at Tuscan Lodge No. 360. The date
for the 2023 meeting fell one day after Presidents’ Day this year. Tuscan Lodge provided a wonderful meal to
everyone prior to the meeting. The President of the Chapter opened the meeting in normal fashion then
introduced our guest speaker for the evening. During the Vietnam conflict Mr. Ted Liebig, Sr. was then
Lieutenant Liebig and an Air Force fighter pilot. He was able to live out the dream of many an adolescent
male. He got to be an Air Force equivalent of James Bond as a member of the Ravens, a clandestine operations
group made up of elite Air Force fighter pilots, which was launched in 1966 during the height of the Vietnam
War. The Ravens lived in Laos, wore civilian clothes and had cover stories. If anybody asked, Liebig was a
consultant for navigable waterways. In reality, he and his Raven counterparts flew mission after mission
supporting ground forces and working with CIA along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a network of roads used to
move personnel and supplies between North and South Vietnam. Ted related many stories of his operations
while in active duty. His talk was well received by the member in attendance, and all expressed to him their
thanks for his service in the Air Force.
