you throw the punch upward and outward to strike your
target with the knuckles of your fist.
Left uppercut: The left uppercut is executed by striking
the bottom transverse plane of your target. From your
boxing stance, lower your left forearm until the angle of
your elbow is between 30 and 90 degrees. Rotate around
your waist and pivot slightly on the ball of your rear foot as
you throw the punch upward and outward to strike your
target with the knuckles of your fist.
Shadowboxing: Shadowboxing is the active effort to
improve accuracy and effective execution of technique by
practicing on a perceived target (as opposed to a physical
target, such as a heavy bag or opponent). You train to use
correct form and body mechanics despite changing
variables in speed, timing, resistance, etc. See page 76 for
more details.
Pivot: The pivot is a rotating motion on the balls of your
feet along the transverse plane. This book will address two
types of pivoting actions: pivoting to change direction, and
pivoting to add reach.
