splitting it into two equal halves. When standing in your
boxing stance, the toes of your lead foot should be placed
on the center line and point directly toward your forward-
facing target.
Bob and weave: Bobbing and weaving are actions in which
your head moves from side to side and up and down, away
from the center line. Bobbing occurs when you rotate
around the waist while alternating your shoulders in a slight
forward slipping motion. Weaving occurs when you
simultaneously rotate around the waist while lowering then
raising your level through flexion and extension of the knees
in such a way that the side-to-side movement of your head
appears to make the shape of a “U.” (See more about
changing level on page 35; see the Weave Side to Side
exercise on page 39.)
Slip: To slip a straight punch, you must take your head off
the center line of attack by bending laterally around the
waist.
To slip right, start from your boxing stance, slightly lower
your level, and lean to the right. Your knees bend outward
and away from each other as you change your level. Your
head and upper body shift away from the center line as you
bend at the waist to lean to the right.
