wish to move. Generally, the foot closest to the direction
you are moving will take the initial step, as it has the
shortest distance to travel to reach the desired destination.
The foot that takes this initial step is called the primary foot.
The secondary foot follows and generates the “push” force
required to drive the primary foot in the desired direction.
Moving forward (advancing) along the sagittal plane: Your
lead (primary) foot steps forward first and is followed by a
step with the rear (secondary) foot.
Moving backward (retreating) along the sagittal plane: Your
rear (primary) foot steps backward first and is followed by
a step with the lead (secondary) foot.
Moving left along the frontal plane: Your left (primary) foot
steps toward the left first and is followed by a step with
the right (secondary) foot.
Moving right along the frontal plane: Your right (primary)
foot steps toward the right first and is followed by a step
with the left (secondary) foot.
