EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
T he first National Nutrition Policy of
Malaysia (NNPM) was formulated and
approved by the Cabinet in 2003. In 2019,
this policy was reviewed and strengthened in
line with the rapid changes of dietary
patterns and the increase of double burden
of malnutrition in Malaysia. The policy is
determined to achieve, enhance and
maintain the well-being of the population. It
aims to elevate the nutritional status of the
population, reduce diet-related
non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and
strengthen food and nutrition security. It also
supports and enhances sustainable food
systems for healthy diets of the population.
The policy shall integrate, synergise, and
mobilise effective and sustainable food and
nutrition strategies involving various
stakeholders across all sectors. The vision of
the NNPM is to achieve nutritional
well-being for a healthy nation. Its missions
are to reduce the double burden of
malnutrition of the population and to
enhance food and nutrition security through
sustainable food systems. The policy also
aims to strengthen multi-sectoral
collaborations or partnerships in nutrition
specific and nutrition sensitive strategies
and programmes. Thirteen strategies have
been identified towards achieving the
missions.
