THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF HEALTH MALAYSIA
T he National Nutrition Policy of Malaysia was first drafted and
approved by the Cabinet in 2003. It is Malaysia’s commitment from
the International Conference on Nutrition (ICN) 1992 in Rome to
establish national policies aimed at eradicating malnutrition and
transforming food systems to make nutritious diets available to all.
The review of this policy is one of the significant strategies in the
National Plan of Action for Nutrition of Malaysia (NPANM) III, 2016-2025.
The revised policy aims to reduce the double burden of malnutrition of
the population as well as to enhance food and nutrition security through
sustainable food systems
In this respect, a multi-sectoral dynamic approach to tackle the problem
of double burden of malnutrition in Malaysia will also be strengthened in
order to effectively implement nutrition sensitive strategies. I hope that
this policy would provide effective governance to ensure we become
more integrated and collaborative towards making Malaysia a leader in
the field of nutrition.
Therefore, I would like to congratulate all who were involved in the
revision of this policy especially the members of the Technical Working
Group for Nutrition Policy for their fullest commitment and contribution.
It is hoped that this policy will be widely used and benefit health
professionals, policy makers, programme managers, researchers,
advocates, private sectors and the general public.
