Message
Prof. Noranit Setbutra
Chairman of the World Buddhist University
It is my great honor to send a commemorative message for publication to be contributed as
a goodwill gesture on the occasion of the 29 General Conference of The World Fellowship
th
of Buddhists (The WFB), and its subordinate organs of the 20 General Conference of the
th
World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) and the 11 Meeting of the World Buddhist
th
University (WBU) Council to be held in Narita, Japan from 6-9 November B.E. 2561 (2018).
First of all, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the President, Executive Members of
Japan Buddhist Federation who kindly being the host of this Conference and to all distinguished
participants who comes from all over the world to attend in the Conference in November B.E.
2561 (2018), Japan.
The World Buddhist University (WBU) was established by The WFB resolution at the 20 th
General Conference of The WFB in New South Wales, Australia. Its objectives are to connect
and coordinate with universities or educational institutes around the world that engaged in
research, training, spiritual practice, cultural exchange and educational development based on
Buddhism for enhancement and realization of the aims of The WFB.
Globalization enables people more convenience of communication and data receiving.
However, it sometimes made people to be far away from each other in reality. Hence, ‘Compassion
in Action: Creating Hope and Life in Death’ has been chosen to be the theme of this Conference.
Practicing the Buddha Dharma will make us see things in their true perspective and arouse our
sympathy for all living beings. We all realize that the rapid economic development, the balance
of cultures, material and spiritual, has been disrupted. Consequently, people tend to keep away
from the warmth of heart, to fall into too much materialistic thinking and finally lose mental
stability. Buddhism works for the moral and spiritual uplifting of the people. The message of
the Buddha to practice boundless love and kindness to all, given more than twenty-five hundred
years ago is more relevant today than ever before. Hopefully, what we share and discuss at this
Conference will bring about a practical solution to elevate living condition of people in the
society and all living beings.
I am confident that the deliberations of all Buddhists assembling in this Conference will be
able to promote better understanding of the relevance of Buddha’s message among the people
all over the world.
May the blessings of the great Triple Gems be upon you all.
