Rear axle- Rear wheel hub with brake drum assembly
Half axle
Overhaul
1. Remove the left half axle
(a). Fix the wheels with sleepers to prevent the movement of the vehicle.
(b). Loosen the half-axle bolt.
(c). Remove the left half axle.
Hint:
• If the half axle is too tight to be removed, knock
the flange surface of the half axle lightly with a
hammer and copper bar to make the half axle
loose, and then remove it.
• If it still can’t be removed, pull the flange of the
half axle with a puller and remove it after
separating the half axle and the rear wheel hub.
2. Remove the right half axle. 25
Hint:
The steps for the removal of the right half axle are the same with those for the left half axle.
3. Check half axle
(a). Measure the radial runout in the middle of the
half axle and the end face runout inside the
flange with V-shaped tables and dial indicators.
Radial jumpiness: ≤ 1.0 mm
End face jumpiness: ≤ 0.15 mm
If the radial jumpiness and end face jumpiness are
beyond the limit values, calibrate them and replace with
a new half axle if necessary.
(b). Check whether the half axle has cracks through
magnetic crack detection.
(c). Check whether the spline at the end of the half
axle is worn seriously and whether there are
significant distortion and cracks.
Wear of tooth thickness: ≤ 0.2 mm
Skew of tooth form: ≤ 1 mm
half axle if the tooth thickness wear of spline and the
skew of tooth form are over the limit values.
