Some really innovative methods of teaching- learning used in different parts of India are-
1. ‘Spoken School’ Initiative- The brainchild of ‘ Daganda swaraj Foundation’ , this initiative is
started in western india. Speakers with pre-recorded sessions are taken to villages on
motor – bikes. Kids are gathered and lessons related to maths, English, hindi, day to day
activities, dance, moral values etc. are played . Students who have no access to internet
and devices are benefitting a great deal from this initiative.
2. Shyam Kishore singh, from Jharkhand Dumka district had put up several loudspeakers
across Bankathi village to teach his students who do not have smartphones.
3. Anganwadi workers are delivering educational material home. ‘ Ghare ghare Arunima’
project of dept of women and child development of Odisha in collaboration with unicef is
providing teaching learning material to students in their homes.
These are some examples of many such innovative ideas implemented all over India during
these unprecedented times. Our students have shown exemplary patience and positivity in
getting adjusted to these innovative methods of teaching. We are still greatly affected by the
pandemic and don’t know when will the time be good enough to open schools again for
students. Till then we will have to keep learning, applying new methods and come up with
new ideas every single day.
There are certain things we need to keep in mind to make teaching learning more inclusive.
1. Make internet connectivity and electronic devices available to all students. Rich people can
donate their old devices to students who need them.
2. Delhi govt education department has made provision of centralized worksheets to be
provided to all students of Delhi govt school. A link is sent online where students can
access weekly worksheets from home. Those students who do not have internet
connectivity can collect their printed worksheet from school. Lectures on youtube are also
being provided by Delhi govt school teachers.
3. We need to set an ethical learning process through well planned virtual sessions.
4. As students are connected to us only through online classes, we need to encourage self-
regulated learning.
5. We need to teach students to manage online platforms seamlessly.
6. We need to promote collaborative learning. Students can be divided into groups and each
group can perform in front of other groups
7. Television channels such as Doordarshan can be used to broadcast lectures. Television has
wider reach than internet.
We need to keep our students positive and help them sail through these difficult times. With
the help of technology, human efforts and innovative ideas, teaching learning process can be
conducted with much success.
