Short Splice

4 Tuck the second and third .strand in a
similar manner so that one side of the
splice has a complete series of tucks.

5 Turn the rope round. With the other three
strands tuck over one and under one strand.
6 When a set of tucks has been made in
each direction the seizing can be

removed, and any slight slackness in the
splice tightened up by a gentle tug on
                    each strand.

7 Make two more complete sets of tucks

on each side (if natural; four more if
synthetic). Trim the ends to finish and roll

                    underfoot to round the splice.
                8 The finished splice.
