Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices

4 Tuck the left strand down over two
strands of the main rope and under the

middle strand of the joining rope. Tucking
against the lay of the rope.
5 Tuck the right-hand strand over two

strands in the main rope, then
             underneath itself.
6 Turn the ropes over and tuck what was the

middle strand over two strands in the main
rope and under the last strand that as yet
has not had a strand tucked under it.

7 The strands should now all come out at
the same level. Pull up any slack.
8 Tuck all strands over one and under one

in the normal splicing manner. After one
more set of tucks (three more sets for
synthetic rope) the splice can be trimmed
             and finished.

          9 The finished splice.
