Sailmaker’s Whipping
The sailmaker’s whipping has all the
appearance of the palm and needle
whipping but is made without the use
of either palm or needle. It is very
secure, but can only be made at the
end of three-strand rope. When you
start this whipping, take care not to
lose the lay of the rope as you put the
first loop between the strands. Always
finish with a reef knot pulled tight.
