Palm and Needle Whipping on ^oree-Strand Rope
Made in much the same way as the
palm and needle whipping for braided
rope, this creates a beautiful looking
and very secure whipping. Again, this
whipping can also be made a few
inches back from the first or end
whipping.
1 Stitch through the rope a couple of times
working toward the end of the rope and
catching the loose end of the twine so it
will not pull out.
2 Now start to wrap the twine tightly round
the rope.
3 Work the wrapping back from the end
until the whipping is long enough.
4 Push the needle into the rope at one of
the grooves of the rope and out at
another.
5 Now follow the groove of the rope to the
end and push the needle in and out at
Pocket Guide to Knots & Splices
the start of the next groove.
6 Repeat this until all the grooves have a
piece of line in them, and then carry on
until they each have two pieces of line
laying in them.
7 Finish the whipping as a seizing (see
page 86) then trim end of rope.
8 Finished palm and needle whipping on
three-strand rope.
