How the Students are learning the Materials
The question as to how contemporary classroom instructions are being weighed today in
a technology driven curricula speaks to the fact that just as technology influences and supports
what is being learned in institutions of higher learning, so too is it supporting changes to the way
students are learning the materials taught in the classroom. The move from content-centered
curricula to competency-based curricula is associated with what Oliver (2002) referred to as the
art of moving away from a teacher-centered strategy of delivery to a student-centered strategy of
learning. Through technology-facilitated approaches, contemporary learning settings now
encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning .In the past students have become
very comfortable to learning through a direct passage of information through the teacher who
presents the information that forms the curriculum. The growing use of Information technology
as an instructional resource has changed and will likely continue to change many of the strategies
employed by both teachers and students in the learning process. The student centered learning
modality as informed by Oliver (2002) describes particular forms of learning that are gaining
prominence in universities and schools worldwide. It also shows that technology has the capacity
to promote and encourage the transformation of education from a very teacher directed enterprise
to one which supports more student-centered models. Evidence of this today is manifested in (i)
the proliferation of capability, competency and outcomes focused curricula; (ii) moves towards
problem-based learning; and (iii) increased use of the World Wide Web (www.com) as an
information source, Internet users are able to choose the experts from whom they will learn. The
use of information technology in educational settings, by itself acts as a catalyst for change in
this domain as information technology has become a tool that encourages and support
independent learning. Students using information technology for learning purposes become
