Introduction

Technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in

industries, organizations and academic institutions. It is the advancement in computer

technology through machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific

knowledge which deals with engineering or applied sciences. Technology is defined as the use of

science in industry and engineering to invent useful things or to solve problems (Merriam

Webster Dictionary, 1978). It is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and the use

of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon

such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied and pure science for practical ends. In the

corridor of a changing global system driven by the advent of technological advancement, the

information society challenges the educational system with the integration of technology in

advancing instructional modality. In recent years, the speedy, effective and global

communication of knowledge and academic discipline has created a new learning modality

hewed in the foundation for co-operation and teamwork both nationally and internationally. This

new frontier foundation created by the advancement in technology has led to increasing the role

played by information technology in the development of society. These new foundation calls for

an active reaction to the challenges of the information society to new learning modalities in

               various academic institutions.

The invention of technology and its overt contribution to all facets of human endeavor

has resulted in a new and greater demands being made as to the core qualifications of individuals

and their understanding and knowledge of the consequences of the introduction of information

technology for organizational and academic institutional growth (Nwokeafor, 2015). In view of

the need, importance and role of technology as a conduit in harnessing and supporting

knowledge construction, there has been the urgent need to train faculty, staff and students to not
