C6.1 Summer Research Institute

Summer research experiences integrated to SURI, simulate the total graduate school experience.

All internships include eight weeks of faculty-directed research, culminating with research presentations at

the annual SURI Research symposium. They also feature instruction in writing and GRE preparation;

motivational presentations with graduate students and project alumni; visits to at least three area PhD

granting institutions; cultural enrichment activities; and networking/community building in a supportive

learning environment. In addition to research and networking activities with mentors, interns review

weekly progress reports with their faculty mentors. This collaborative assessment ensures that research

projects stay on track and provides students further practice in relating to faculty one-on-one, a skill

critical to success in graduate school.
