The Human Resource Development
Orientation Handbook and Research Guide
The HRD Graduate Program Handbook provides information on procedures required to complete
a Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Development at Bowie State University. It is meant to
be a guide and complement to the BSU Graduate Catalog, which is the official resource for Bowie
Graduate School academic regulations. Nothing herein is intended to conflict with information in
the BSU Graduate Catalog. All students are expected to be familiar with appropriate sections of this
HRD Orientation Handbook. The first part of the HRD handbook discusses academic regulations
and program requirements. The second part prepares you for your thesis. It also includes most of
the common forms necessary to proceed through the program.
The HRD curriculum is designed to facilitate student learning in the design and implementation of
human resource systems; provide analytical frameworks that will enable the students to evaluate
human resource policy decisions; and to develop their skills as motivators, negotiators and leaders.
Part of the mission of the HRD program is to provide a rigorous and exciting program of studies that
equips students with the theoretical, normative, and practical skills demanded of a well-rounded,
well-educated college graduate. We offer a highly flexible program of studies to allow students to
develop their own expertise.
