HEALTH AND SAFETY
It is the policy of The Training and Learning Company to comply with the terms of the Health and Safety at Work Act
and to provide and maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
TLC’s health and safety objective is to minimise the number of instances of occupational accidents and illnesses and
aims to achieve an accident-free workplace. Protecting your personal health and safety is not all down to the employer.
Protect yourself and others at work.
STATEMENT OF GENERAL POLICY
• To prevent accidents and cases of work related ill health and provide adequate control of health and safety
risks arising from work activities.
• To provide adequate training to ensure employees are competent to do their work.
• To engage and consult with employees on day to day health & safety conditions and provide advice and
supervision on occupational health.
• To implement emergency procedures – evacuation in case of fire or significant incident.
• To maintain safe and healthy working conditions, provide and maintain plant equipment and machinery,
and ensure safe storage/use of substances.
Make sure you know the first aid and fire drill procedures at your workplace from your employer. All workers have a
right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are controlled. Health and safety is preventing you from
being hurt or getting sick. You and your employer are responsible for health and safety at work.
WHAT EMPLOYERS MUST DO FOR YOU
Take all reasonable precautions to protect you from harm.
• In a way you can understand, they must explain how risks will be controlled and tell you who is responsible for this.
• Consult and work with you and your health and safety representatives in protecting everyone from harm in the
workplace.
• Give you the health and safety training you need to do your job.
• Provide you with any equipment and protective clothing you need, and ensure it is properly maintained
• Provide toilets, washing facilities and drinking water.
• Provide adequate first-aid facilities.
• Report major injuries and fatalities at work to HSE Incident Contact Centre: 0845 300 9923. Report other injuries,
diseases and dangerous incidents online at www.hse.gov.uk.
• Have insurance that covers you in case you get hurt at work or ill through work. Display a hard copy or electronic
copy of the current insurance certificate where you can easily read it.
• Protect all other employers or contractors sharing the workplace or providing employees (such as agency workers),
so that everyone’s health and safety is maintained.
