CELEBRATES
100 YEARS OF
COMMUNITY SERVICE
A celebration of a century of continuous community service
took place in Queens, as the Long Island City/ Astoria Lions
Club commemorated the 100-year anniversary with a Lion Ormond Brathwaite, IP Douglas X. Alexander and

the club has been providing decades of service in our Wells awardee, Lion Lawrence Miro
neighborhood, including blood drives, donation and
distribution of non-perishable dry goods and prepared food,
collection of used eye-glasses and green space /
environmental clean-up and beautification.
The gala took place at Marbella Restaurant in Bayside and
featured many dignitaries. Our special guest was
International President, Douglas X. Alexander, who represents
the organization’s humanitarian service in over 200 countries
worldwide. He was introduced by District Governor Anthony DG Anthony Cochran cuts the congratulatory cake

for New York State Assembly, Lion Brent O’Leary received a
Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding record of
activism in the Queens area.
Proceeds from the evening raised thousands of dollars which
the club gifted to Pediatric Cancer Research at St. Mary’s
Hospital.
