Leos & Lions “TEAMING” together at Garden Project
TEAMING TOGETHER AT
HORTICULTURE COMMUNITY
GARDEN
Environment Chairperson, Lion Mirle Gillard
(Midwood) and Leo District Chairperson, Lion
Stephanie Simeon (Springfield Gardens),
collaborated for an Environment Community
Project on October 23, 2021.
The first plot, prepared by Lion Mirle, was at
Jehu’s Table, a Lutheran Church located in East
New York, Brooklyn. The pride of excited and
energetic Leos and Lions planted vegetables
including broccoli, rouge d’hiver lettuce, beans,
astro arugula and onions. Lion Mirle distributed
the seeds and demonstrated how they should be
buried in the soil.
Many Lions from various clubs, ( East New York,
Brooklyn Crown Heights, Central Brooklyn, New
Horizon, Starrett City, Brooklyn Jefferson,
Midwood, Springfield Gardens, Pace Setters, Stuy
Park, Metropolis, Vanderveer Park – Glenwood
and Laurelton ) participated in this community
project with Leos from Central Brooklyn and Pace
Setters and our very sociable Leo Mascot Kamiya
Atherley ( East New York Lions.) PCC Deborah
Harrison and PDG Audrey Doorn were also part of
the team. It was a true demonstration of
“Growth Through Service…….Teaming Together”.
Lions Mirle and Stephanie thanked all the
participants who contributed to the success of
this project. Special recognition to Lion Rosina
Major (East New York Lions Club) who was
instrumental in making the initial arrangements
with Jehu’s Table. Lion Stephanie promised to
gift a banner patch to any club with at least four
(4) Leos and Lions participating at future
horticulture events.
