VNSNY Chronic Care Expertise
Wound
Our multidisciplinary teams of clinicians aim to provide
the highest level of wound care for our patients. A skilled
nurse, or for those with difficult wounds, a Certified Wound
Ostomy Continence nurse (CWOCN), will work closely with
each patient’s VNSNY nursing team to establish a treatment
plan and evaluate progress every step of the way.
While specific treatments vary by patient, our nurses can
provide the following wound-care services:
• Basic Wound Care—Cleaning wounds and changing
wound dressings and administering antibiotic therapy
(if prescribed)
• Self-Care Training—Education for patients and caregivers
on how to change wound dressings, monitor healing,
manage pain and recognize potential complications
• Cutting-Edge Treatment—State-of-the-art therapies, such
as negative pressure wound therapy, which employs
suction technology to stimulate tissue growth and heal
wounds faster
• Digital Photography—Nurses may take digital photos
of wounds using a smartphone app that transmits a
photo directly into the patient’s medical record for
WOCN consultation and can also be emailed to the
patient’s doctors.
