                                                   What are the duties

                                                of an admissions nurse?

                   ▪ Collecting insurance information ▪ Educating patients and family
                   ▪ Coordinating with physician ▪ Greeting patients
                   ▪ Recording vital signs ▪ Obtaining medical history

                 Duty 1: Greeting patients

A nurse starts every encounter by properly greeting the patient before the physician does.
This is to ensure the patient's comfort and to understand the basic details of why the patient

is currently in the hospital. The admissions nurse uses this opportunity to establish a
relationship with the patient and their family and to reduce any anxiety regarding the
                  hospital visit.

                  Duty 2: …………………………………………………………….

The nurse starts the process of diagnosing the patient by taking metrics of the patient's vital
functions. The basic vitals they record can include body temperature, blood pressure, pulse
rate, and respiration rate. This preliminary examination can also include any physical injuries

or body parts related to the reason the patient is visiting.

                 Duty 3: …………………………………………………………….

The nurse then asks the patient questions about the history of their health. Obtaining a
patient's medical history can include asking for information about allergies, previous illnesses

and surgeries, current medications, and immunizations. This process may also include asking

questions about family medical history like heart disease, diabetes, and other genetic illnesses.
