The sources may be accessed through journals, electronic or printed databases, and

websites. However, not all sources are reputable and credible to be put in your research-

based paper. There are some factors you should consider in choosing the reputable journals:

a. Publisher. Check the reputation of the publisher of the journal. If they are an
established and reputable publishing house (e.g. Springer, Wiley, Elsevier, and Nature

Publishing Group, etc), you can feel more confident that the journal is also reputable.

b. Peer review. Reputable journals use peer review in selecting manuscripts for
publication.

c. Editorial board. Most reputable journals have an international editorial board

(reviewers are from various established universities worldwide). Search for the

reviewers’ name online and find their journals as most of the editorial board are

established researchers in the field.
d. Indexing. To be discoverable, the journals should be indexed in familiar online

databases such as PubMed, Science Citation Index, Scopus, SINTA (Indonesian

National Indexing), etc.
e. Consistency. Reputable journals have consistent content published in consistent

intervals. Review the journals’ table of contents and ensure that they are consistent

in their publication.
