Now seemed like the right time to do so. Ever thrifty, she pointed out
that if we stayed out all night there was no point to paying for a hotel
room. So, we checked out of the hotel and stored our bags. We found a

That night we went to the Palladium near Hollywood. We met
Bob Sorbonne and Betsy Bradley, who were engaged at that time (Bob
later became a dentist known for his outstanding abilities). We had a
great time dancing to the music provided by Tommy Dorseys orchestra.
It had a skinny young fellow as its singer. His name was Frank Sinatra.
He was unknown at the time, but we thought he had real talent and a
great future. On Sunday, we took the big red train that then ran out to
Long Beach. We attended church with Betsy and Bob. Later they drove

Berry Farm. There we had their famous chicken dinners and wandered
around in the old western town they had recreated.
We rode the Greyhound Bus back to Salt Lake. We left the
spring-like weather in Los Angeles for the snow in Salt Lake. We car-
ried our bags three blocks to 45 East North Temple. I had $4 left in my
wallet. We were very young and had limited money, but we had a great
time on our honeymoon.
We soon had to move to a tiny apartment at 126 A Street because
Jeans house was being remodeled. Our apartment had been created on
