• Drain the radiator, heat exchanger etc. sides of the same circuits unless the coolant is
                                 not being replaced.

Isolation and Draining of Engine Oil Lubricating Circuits

                             • Drain the engine oil and auxiliary oil tank into an approved container(s) suitable for
the volume being drained. Label the container(s) as “used oil”.
                             • Verify all oil fill/make-up valves are in the closed position.

                          Top End Disassembly

                              • During disassembly all engine piping, covers etc. should remain closed and sealed as
                                 possible.

                              • All parts being removed shall be visually inspected for any unusual wear or failures
as this could point to unforeseen problems. Inspect exhaust manifolds, ignition
                                 parts, wiring harnesses etc.
                              • All cylinder heads shall be marked with the cylinder number they were removed
from in case they need to be referenced at a later time.
                              • Any parts being reused such as pushrods, valve rockers etc. must be labeled with the
cylinder number and which valve; intake or exhaust they were installed on so the
parts can be reinstalled as a matched set.

                              • All parts being reused must be inspected at the time of removal, so any necessary
replacements can be ordered to minimize any delays.
                              • All parts being reused must be stored properly to keep them free of dirt and debris.
                              • All parts not being removed, such as the cam shaft must be inspected at the time of
top end disassembly to minimize any delays if there are unexpected issues.

                              • Before beginning disassembly of the bottom end cover and seal as many openings as
possible such as the intake manifold using engine specific magnetic covers.
                              • Refer to the document section for the applicable FSM’s, TI’s, ST’s and Maintenance
                                 Tasks.

                          Bottom End Disassembly

                              • During disassembly all engine piping, covers etc. should remain closed and sealed as
                                 possible.
                              • All parts being removed shall be visually inspected for any unusual wear or failures
as this could point to unforeseen problems. Especially connecting rod and main
                                 bearings.
