I.ALTERNATIVE MEDICAL SYSTEM THERAPY
                               3. HYDROTHERAPY

Definition:

Hydrotherapy refers to the medicinal use of water,
including hot tubs, cold water treatments, ice packs,
vapours, saunas, mineral springs, hot springs, sitz baths,
wet towel applications, water exercises, and water
massage. Hydrotherapy immersion waters available at spas
may be rich in specific minerals or enhanced with aromatic
 oils or herbs.

Theory of Action:

The healing properties of hydrotherapy are based on its mechanical and/or thermal
effects. It exploits the body's reaction to hot and cold stimuli. The nerves carry
impulses felt at the skin deeper into the body; various theories have been proposed to
explain how hydrotherapy works, depending on the specific technique used.

BENEFITS OF HYDROTHERAPY:

 Detoxify the blood.
 Stimulate blood circulation.
 Enhance the immune system and improve digestion. Scientific research is limited

       in these areas.
 Sedative; a warm water bath will invariably soothe and relax an extremely

nervous person and help soothe restful sleep.
 Antipyretic.
