The Triangle of Land and the Peterborough Boat

t the top of the hill near the cottage, there’s a triangular piece of land that still exists today. It used to house the garage,
Aan essential feature back when winters and even summer rains made the narrow road down to the cottage nearly

impassable. The garage is still there, now used as storage. I think some of the old boats had been kept there but are now

off-site. The original boat was a Peterborough cedar-strip boat, a classic from the Peterborough Canoe Company. Though

not a canoe, it embodied the same craftsmanship and tradition. An identical model is on display in the Moose Jaw Western
Development Museum, a tribute to its heritage. Nowadays, there’s a more practical aluminum boat with a small motor,
perfect for leisurely outings around the lake. The mention of the Moose Jaw museum reminded me that a snow plane (see

section on my father’s practice in Ayton, Ontario) similar to the Ayton one is on display. Such snow planes were used by
rural doctors in Saskatchewan as well.
