Different Behaviors Demand Different Needs
Different behavioral styles can be analogous to different animals.
Think about which of these animals might best describe you (and I mean
ONLY in the way they behave, not their intelligence or looks!)
Are you a LION? Forceful, decisive, competitive, logical, quick-thinking,
dominant?
Or maybe you are more like a PORPOISE? Playful, attention-grabbing,
impulsive, interpersonal?
Perhaps you are like a KOALA bear? Laid-back, easy-going, peace-loving,
steady?
Or maybe more like a FOX? Cunning, analytical, cautious?
Just as we would treat real lions, porpoises, koalas, and foxes differently,
so we should communicate differently to individuals according to their
dominant, playful, laid-back or cautious behavioral styles.
By knowing our communication style, and understanding the
characteristics of other styles, we can most likely “feed” different types on
a way that will make them thrive.
For example, we can feed LIONS “to the point” communication since they
tend to make decisions so quickly. Because PORPOISES like small talk
and chatter, we can feed them “stimulating and personal” communication.
KOALAS like “sincere and steady” communication because they value
relationships and security. And FOXES enjoy “information and data-filled”
communication since they like to be informed.
