Train Your Ears to Listen
This means practice. Look the speaker in the eye and concentrate on what
is being said. Promise yourself that you will focus on that conversation
and block out everything else.
Keep doing it. It takes a lifetime of practice to be a good listener.

Remember the Listening Speed Rule
There’s a basic rule which applies to every conversation: the person who is
speaking talks much slower than the person who is listening thinks. This
is why you can process so much more than what is being said at that point.
And this is why we can easily be distracted if we aren’t careful.
The secret here is concentration. Forget the other things on your mind and
give your undivided thought to the person speaking.
