Fibroblastic sarcoids (Figures 18.33a, b and c)
These sarcoids are solid, ulcerated masses that bleed easily and can grow very rapidly. They
may develop from any of the sarcoid types described above or from the proud flesh of a non-
healing wound. They may be pendulous, hanging from the horse’s body on a stalk of tissue.
Fibroblastic sarcoids also occur on the distal limbs where they are easily knocked and may
become infected. They are particularly common on the underside of the horse’s abdomen,
around the sheath of geldings and on the inner thighs.
