average commercial litter consists of 8 to 10 kits.

Meat Production

Rabbit meat is a source of high quality protein, leaner than

beef, pork, and chicken meat. It can be used in most ways

chicken meat is used. Domesticated rabbit tastes like

chicken because both are blank palettes upon which any

desired flavours can be layered.

Fryers

Young rabbits suitable for 'frying' meaning that they are

tender. Typically, between 4-5 pounds live weight and 8-12

weeks of age

Roasters

Older, larger meat rabbits are referred to as "roasters" or

"stewers" much like chicken is are usually over 5 pounds

and up to 8 months in age. The flesh is firm and coarse
grained and less tender than a fryer.

Rex

There are two breeds of Rex mainly bred for fur: Castor

Rex (a brown colour) and Chin Rex (which is the same

colour as chinchilla but with white on the underbelly; this is

purposeful as the fur is cheaper to produce than chinchilla

fur but looks almost the same).
