                       only more concentrated but also homogeneous,

                       dominated by financialized organisations focused on

                       sustaining high rates of return on equity.” (2)


               At some point or another, most large companies had built

               an Application Programming Interface (API) for their

               customers, or for internal use. However, UK banking had

               little in the way of APIs for retail or SME customers.

               It may be argued that the lack of innovation in UK banking


               had led to a lack of finance technology leadership unlike for
               example, Germany which was developing a Home Banking

               Computer Interface (HBCI) or Financial Transaction Services

               (FinTS) sector.
