P. 48
Analysis of the functional areas may help you identify deep-rooted problems that are
the responsibility of top management.
Imagine yourself as a key player in the case and decide why, as that person, you acted
as you did, the strategy you developed and the results that followed.
Step Three: Action Plan
Solution Generation
Identify all the relevant alternatives – those that could solve the problems identified in
step 2.
Evaluate each alternative in light of the available information.
Step Four: Implementation
Final Step
Develop an implementation plan – keep in mind that most business strategies fail not
because they are wrong but rather because they are not implemented well.
The final step in the analysis is to develop a plan for the effective implementation of
your decision.
This will allow you to begin making sense of the material by reading
and studying particular sections of it more thoroughly. For example, at
this point a broad approach may be attempted through recourse to a
simple + or - scale rating of these areas. This helps to draw attention
to those areas, which immediately jump out as requiring further
attention.
