Matahari Resort and Spa, Bali, Indonesia is a

luxury resort. It has been the recipient of

ASEAN Green Hotel Award, thrice in a row

from 2008 and is believed to be setting the

highest standards for the future. Through the

following initiatives, the hotel ensures the

delivery of a sustainable product (Matahari

Beach Resort and Spa, 2013):

• The hotel owns a ―closed water cycle‖ which

is capable of extracting as well as recycling

water. The hotel also operates a ―biological

water treatment plant‖ which purifies the

waste/recycled water and uses it for the

gardens and parks in the resort. These

initiatives are truly futuristic since global

water consumption is estimated to double after

every 20 years. Another reason for the hotel

industry to essentially innovate environment

friendly water consumption practices, lies in

the fact that consumers tend to use water with

greater ease, when they stay at hotels. Also

daily washing of bed and table linen adds to

the consumption levels.
