The latter may affect the heritage value of the

site both positively and negatively, and hence

its attraction and sustainability in future. This

leads to the discussion on what is the

significance of the heritage site, which might

be evaluated based on the response from the

visitors. Significance of a heritage site

suggests its relevance to the culture. The

conservation/restoration plans are highly

dependent upon the significance of the

heritage sites. Heritage value can be adjudged

based on three broad parameters—societal,

economic and environmental. It is important to

decipher these three parameters as the same

might be used for the achieving sustainability.

SOCIETY:

It is very important to understand why the

society values heritage. It is basically the

inheritance, which has proliferated over the

period of time and has become the value of the
