Standards and Certification
Accredited third-party certification bodies, like
EAGLE, audit companies to validate they meet the
requirements (or conform) with the standard and that
their system is effective. Once approved, an official
accredited certificate (“certification”) is issued.
Companies that are certified agree to meet and
maintain the requirements of the standard.
Certification creates the ultimate confidence for end
users – whether it is for public or privately held
companies.
Accredited Certification Bodies (CB’s) must also meet
stringent requirements to become and remain
accredited. Guidance for CB’s is driven through the
standards ISO/IEC 17021 and ISO/IEC 17065. (See
Glossary regarding ISO/IEC 17021 and ISO/IEC
17065.) These standards cover the certification
process, auditor competency requirements, document
control, management responsibility, etc. CB’s also go
through audits to help ensure they are in conformance
to the requirements of their standard(s). The audits
are conducted by an Accreditation Body (AB), also
known as an oversight body.
Accreditation Bodies like ANAB, ANSI National
Accreditation Board, provide accreditation to a select
group of standards for management systems, testing
and calibration laboratories, reference material
producers and inspection bodies. The Accreditation
Board (ANAB) is one of the Accreditation Bodies for
the ISO standards. The
