Architectural Software and Processes (ASAP) focus in FY22 was to continue
supporting the efforts of the BIM team. This work included evaluation and
refinement of the standard Revit processes used in all the offices, evaluating and
implementing new architectural software titles such as Kiwicodes and Rhino and
continued refinement of the 2021 FGMA Revit Template and related content
libraries and supporting TAG on the update of standard construction details.
Other accomplishments include training assistance on architecture software
including Revit, Bluebeam and Autodesk Construction Cloud and supporting three
TAP presentations covering topics related to Rendering, Digital Drawing Workflow
and Digital Field Tools.
The Design Leadership Committee (DLC) helped organize and conduct nine
different lunchtime firmwide design share sessions involving all regions and many
different building types including one with an external guest. These presentations
ranged from New and Innovative Products, current design projects like the work at
Kaskaskia College and the Reston office Multifamily and Mixed-Use experience to
Clayton Ferguson from Agency 808 who presented on experiential design and
branding.
DLC has been working closely with the Marketing Team and others to update the
design awards process and how we can better identify and pursue the best award
opportunities in each region. In FY22, FGMA won 11 design awards firmwide.
Congratulations everyone!
To support one of DLC’s objectives “strengthen firmwide design communication,”
our committee members demonstrated this in numerous ways in FY22:
• DLC members continue the Miro collaboration tool for both internal and
external design meetings and we encourage all staff to explore this great tool
as well. FGMA now has 10 seats of this program for use.
• Members of the team were also instrumental in requesting, testing and
promoting the latest software upgrades for Sketchup and Rhino.
• DLC continues to work on a guideline document for external social media
rendering standards that will be shared firmwide. The goal is to develop a
more consistent standard of renderings that are published.
To support another of DLC’s objectives “to champion an FGMA sustainable high-
performance building design process for all,” DLC members are also actively
reporting their projects on to the AIA DDx platform as part of our firm’s AIA 2030
Commitment. DLC members are also encouraging project teams in their regions to
incorporate cove.tool energy modeling into the design process as early as
possible.
