Most recently, the committee has begun conversations about materials
transparency and health. A key initiative moving forward focuses on researching
product transparency and labeling. The RDC will summarize our findings, make
recommendations for new policies and procedures, as well as provide an overview
of labeling standards and available tools for materials analysis and assessment.
Looking into FY23, you will see later in the report, Lucy Williams, our Sustainability
Leader, has outlined a plan for the firm for our future and this plan will be a major
part of the work in the Resilient Design Committee moving forward.
The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) had a productive FY22. TAG continued to
host working sessions to work through details, templates and standards. The
focus was on items that needed to be updated and/or would make projects
stronger from a technical standpoint. There was also a focus on feedback from
staff on current issues and concerns that were encountered on projects. With the
help of ASAP, they assisted in updating room partition types and details, updated
door details, and signage details. These detail updates will continue into FY23.
Leonard Debickero was brought into the firm as a Technical Director and was
integrated into TAG to better understand our standards and help in updating and
creating additional standards. His role is further defined under the Strategic Hires
section of this report.
As the building codes change, the team continues to review and ensure all offices
are updated on the changes. TAG also completed a series of TAP presentations in
FY22. They are as follows:
• What you should be coordinating with Consultants Part 2 – November 2021
• What you should be coordinating with Consultants – Part 3 – January 2022
• What does a Code Search Really Entail? – May 2022
• WUFI study of a Natatorium – August 2022
TAG continues to receive an average of two to three questions a week from team
members which means more staff are becoming comfortable with using the
standards to help deliver projects. The group also has seen an uptick on the
number of users of E-Spec over the year which is a plus for projects and standards.
The biggest focus of FY23 will center around specifications. Standardization of
specifications and editing software across all offices has been a TAG goal for some
time. Recent buyouts on several of the editing software systems have pressed the
urgency of this to the forefront. Many of the current software systems will soon be
under a single umbrella, Specpoint from Deltek. Leonard and TAG will be working
to develop a process to utilizing this new software. There are a lot of great aspects
to this system, and TAG is very excited to work on getting this system standardized
for FGMA.
The Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Software Applications Team
kept busy keeping up with our teams and the projects we were delivering. The
team implemented a new Revit workflow of a separate existing conditions model
combined with new work model for numerous projects. This new workflow allows
