Harry (George) McClain
Harry (George) McClain was instrumental in the discovery of a polymeric micro-sphere
replacement of glass micro-spheres within the CMP pad, improving yield and economic viability.
This discovery was the genesis for the IC1000™ pad, which is still the dominant CMP pad today.
McClain recently retired from DuPont.
Bainian Qian
Bainian Qian, a Technical Fellow at DuPont, was a key contributor to the development and
commercialization of the Ikonic™ CMP pad product family. His work in the understanding of
polyurethane chemistry and polymer structure led to breakthroughs in product performance.
He holds 37 US patents.
John Roberts
John Roberts played a critical role in the development of the IC1000™ pad, which is still the dominant
CMP pad today. He discovered a polymeric micro-sphere to replace a glass micro-sphere from
previous product iterations, resulting in a 300% reduction in scratch defects. Roberts has retired
from Dow/Rohm and Haas/Rodel.
