Chorus Lines
Acappella Sounds Chorus
After our summer break, we came back ready to sing! On October 22nd we participated in a
Harmonifest with the Island City Chorus. They are a men's barbershop chorus in our area. They
approached us with the idea of organizing this event together . The purpose of this was to introduce our
community to a cappella singing – barbershop style. We invited representatives from other women's
choruses (both Sweet Adelines and Harmony Intl.) and the other local men's chorus. Also invited were
the mayors of various surrounding communities as well as people from other cultural groups. Each
chorus sang 4-5 songs on their own and we sang two 8-part songs together which required a few joint
rehearsals between the two choruses. We then had two men's quartets and one women's quartet
perform. There was a full house and we were well received. It is something that we are considering
repeating in the future. Afterwards, many of us went to a local restaurant to eat and unwind after the
performance. As you can imagine, there was more singing there!
Then it was time to prepare for Christmas. We started on December 2nd singing in a long term facility
on a First Nations reserve near us. It was our 3rd time and a pleasure to sing for the residents there .
We then started our mall singing on December 9th where we sing on 3 consecutive Saturdays. There
we sing 3 different times at various locations in the mall entertaining people who stop to listen or just
smile as they stroll by. Then we had our Holiday concert on December 9th at the church where we
practice. It is an intimate venue and was decorated for Christmas. We sang traditional Christmas
songs and carols to get our family and friends in the holiday spirit. We finished off singing in one
more long-term facility before our holiday break.
