History
The GTMF story begins in 1962 with the birth of the
Jackson Hole Fine Arts Festival. Before there was a resort
to ski, the Fine Arts Festival brought symphonic musicians
and music to our valley. The orchestra performed for
audiences at Jackson-Wilson High School and
Jackson Lake Lodge.
Under the leadership of Music Director Ling Tung and
his wife Margot Walk, the Festival came into its own.
GTMF became an independent entity and relocated to
a tent at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. In
1974, GTMF opened Walk Festival Hall, an intimate space
with outstanding acoustics. The Hall has served as the
Festival’s home for 50 years, allowing our musical family
to grow.
Now, 62 years after its founding, the Grand Teton Music
Festival is part of Jackson Hole’s culture. It is a vibrant
complement to the awesome landscape and creative
community that first inspired it.
Present
Today, GTMF is known as one of America’s finest music
festivals, a destination for guest artists, orchestra
musicians, and patrons alike.
Our mission is to engage, entertain, educate, and inspire
our resident and seasonal communities through exhilarating
musical experiences.
Our vision is to be among the finest music festivals in
the world and a vital part of Jackson Hole’s distinctive
culture of excellence.
