                                       SEQUENCING INSTRUCTIONS

                 Heart concepts: Wisdom, Order

 God works out his purposes in an orderly way. God wants to help us develop a
wise heart, which ‘knows the proper time and procedure.’ (Ecclesiastes 8: 5-6)

 To learn the importance of sequencing instructions

            Way to Work (Means)

               1. Present the following instructions on pieces of card to the children asking
them to tell you what these instructions are about. Deliberately present
                     them in the wrong order.
                                  Close the door.

                                  Put on your seat belt.
                                  Open the door.
                                  Get in the car.

Establish that these are instructions on how to get in a car, but that they

were in the wrong order. Arrange them in the right order under a card with
the title written on it. To have things in the right order makes things much
                     clearer.

               2. Talk about God creating us to walk through life with him, not managing on our
own, but depending on him. Someone said recently that the Bible is a bit like
                     an ‘instruction book for life’.

Recognise that the Bible tells us lots of things but does not tell us exactly
how to make a cake or change a wheel on a car, but it does tell us to work in a
whole-hearted way and do a good job.

We will still need to read a recipe book or the instruction book for the car, or
get someone who knows about these things to help us. But God’s word does
tell us not to worry if we do not know how to do something, but to ask him to
show us; he will speak to us directly or guide us to someone who can help us.
