Overview of Y2 Summer Term
3. Look at some specific instructions Jesus gave to two of his disciples in
Matthew 21: 1-6.
Jesus knew the time was right for him to ride into Jerusalem, fulfilling the
prophecy given long before about the real King entering the city on a donkey.
Jesus knew that this was all part of his Father’s plan, and in line with that he
gave his disciples some very clear instructions. Let the children identify
them as the passage is read.
(If the instructions are already printed on separate pieces of card, it saves
time and it also means you can rearrange the order if wished.)
1. Go to the village ahead.
2. Find a donkey with her colt.
3. Untie them.
4. If anyone asks about this, say that I need them and will send them
back.
5. Bring them to me.
4. Explain that the Bible says that the disciples went and did as Jesus had
instructed them. Ask the children to consider if they had done them in the
wrong order whether it would that have mattered.
• They would have got muddled.
• They might have got the wrong animals.
• They might have kept Jesus waiting because they could not find
what they were looking for.
• They might have upset God’s big plan that they did not understand
at the time but that Jesus was seeking to follow...
Stress how important it is to do what we feel God is saying to do
straightaway without thinking rather than when we feel like it. Otherwise you
may forget or not have time. (Give examples from your own life if
appropriate.)
5. Share with children that the wise heart knows the proper time and procedure
for every matter. Remember, if you are not sure then ask God; he wants to
show you!
