                                          Wonder and Worship

 God has created all things excellently, and he wants us to aim for excellence in
that which we create. (Philippians 4:8)

 To consider the way in which the hymn ‘All things bright and beautiful’ is
                    written

            Way to Work (Means)

                 1. Show some amazing photographs of different aspects of creation and wait
for the children to respond. Talk about God the Creator.

                 2. Explain that many people for hundreds of years have written songs and
hymns to praise God for his creation. Define a hymn as a song of praise.
Give the children a copy of ‘All things bright and beautiful’ and let them read
through it on their own. Then read through it altogether. Suggest that the

children turn to a friend and see if they can agree on a sentence which says
what this hymn is all about.

                 3. Let the children share their ideas. (This hymn was written by an Irish lady

                     called Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander.

She first started writing poetry when she was nine. As she grew older God
gave her a desire to write hymns specifically for children. In particular she
wanted to help children to understand their Christian faith. This song was
written to explain that God is the Maker of heaven and earth. In 1848 her

book called Hymns for Little Children was published and this hymn was in it.
So too was ‘Once in Royal David’s city’ and ‘There is a green hill far away’.)
