Science Y6 – Heat - overview
HEAT
Truth to Teach (Source)
Revelation 3:15 ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So,
because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.’
Not only materials can be hot or cold, but our hearts can be described as hot or cold too.
Heating or cooling materials can cause them to change.
Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold things are.
How thermometers work.
Devising fair tests and planning experiments.
Identifying conductors and insulators of heat.
Fires need oxygen to burn.
Safety rules and fire regulations.

Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
It is hoped that the children will become more aware of safety procedures and fire regulations as a result of studying this
topic. Spiritual lessons will also become evident as the teaching proceeds. They will acquire knowledge which will be
applicable in their daily lives on keeping warm, selecting appropriate clothing for different seasons and keeping food hot or
cold for periods of time. They will have increased their awareness of materials used as heat conductors and insulators.
