DISSOLVING IN HOT WATER

Increasing the temperature of the water enables substances to dissolve easier and more
quickly. Prayer can help blend the flavours of different people together in a group.

Way to Work (Means)

1. Remember when we tried to dissolve a jelly cube in cold water that it did not
dissolve? I thought that you made jelly by dissolving the cubes in water and then
leaving it to set. What went wrong?

2. Dissolve the jelly cube in a bowl of hot water and note the changes, which occur. It
dissolves quite easily in hot water and releases its flavour and colour. What made
all the difference? The warmth of the water.

3. Repeat with a sugar lump. Once again notice how much easier it is for it to dissolve
or blend into the hot water.

4. If you were a new person coming into a class family, what might make it easier for
you to find your place in that group of people? Prayer, love, the help of the Holy
Spirit – these are all a bit like the warmth of the water. They make such a
difference, when it comes to getting along with others.

5. Complete the first part of the worksheet.

Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

For the children to appreciate that praying about relationships can bring about a peaceful
fusing together.

For the children to observe how the dissolving process can occur more quickly in hot water than
in cold.
