              4. Marble has a different use to limestone. It can be polished, and used to decorate
buildings, or in pillars or floors or statues.
Slate is another rock which has been changed by heat and pressure. What is it used
for? (Roofs and as writing slates.) It started out as mud, which was hardened into
shale, and then was changed into slate. It can be split very thinly without breaking.

              5. There are amazingly high temperatures in the depths of the earth, and everything is
squashed together very tightly. But God is in control of it all. In Psalm 95 it says, “in
His hands are the depths of the earth”. He can work with forces such as heat and
pressure and bring something more beautiful and more useful out of it all.

He does the same thing in our lives too. It is like we are squashed and uncomfortable,
but all the time we are in His hands. As we give ourselves to Him and trust him, He
                     changes us on the inside.

Can you see how amazing He is? He truly is a great God, an awesome God! And these
changed rocks remind us of this.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

              1. For the children to appreciate something of the awesome power of God the Creator
displayed in the Earth, and to touch something more of the fear of the Lord.

              2. For the children to be reminded that “in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) He may choose
to use pressure to bring forth beauty in our lives, or to strengthen our faith.

              3. For the children to be introduced to the concept of metamorphic rocks, although not to
                     the term.
