        Heart concept: Covenant Love

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ‘There is a time for everything,’ which includes ‘a time to laugh’.

Proverbs 17:22 ‘…a cheerful heart is good medicine.’

Words can be used to convey important and true messages, but they can also be combined in rhyme to make
        people smile.

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Share a fun rhyme with the children and agree that it was written to be amusing. Read and discuss the
                 above verse.

Select two children who are best friends and describe their relationship of harmony. Draw a parallel
with words that rhyme; it is as if they fit well together.

            2. Introduce the book ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae, (Published by Orchard Books, ISBN 1-
84121-101-X) and/or the poem ‘Mr Nobody’ (author unknown). If using the former book read together
‘Dolphin’ and ‘Shark’, enjoying each poem, and noting rhyming words.

            3. Talk about language being a wonderful gift from God. Words can be used to communicate true and
important messages but can also be used simply to make people smile.

            4. Let the children complete the comprehension questions, answering in full sentences. Share other
                 amusing rhymes.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

            1. The children should recognise and enjoy some amusing rhymes, and discover this lighter side to
                 language.

            2. They will begin to appreciate God’s love and wisdom in giving us times to laugh.
