Enjoying Words
chose which.) Remind the children that they are not to write a story about their animal, rather they are to
describe what the animal looks like in as interesting a way as possible. Reading a good description of an animal
to the children would be beneficial at this point.

It may be advisable to suggest a final sentence for their description: for example, ‘What a …… animal!’ If
appropriate you could link this with God’s character, either orally or as a comment at the end of the child’s
        work.

Week 9 - Describing Jesus’ character

Glory of God: Jesus’ character is his glory.

The format of this lesson is similar to the one outlined above. Refer to the record of words made at that time.

As the children are doing so encourage them to involve our hearts as well and give glory to Jesus for who he is.
His character is what makes him glorious.

As a prelude to writing a paragraph about Jesus, suggest that the children link similar describing words, e.g.
Jesus, you are loving and kind. You are caring and gentle.

Use as a finishing sentence - ‘Jesus you are my …….’ (e.g. King, Lord, Saviour, etc.)

Perhaps such descriptions could be backed and displayed around the name JESUS written in gold letters.
Maybe such descriptions could be used in a worship time.

Week 10 - Becoming alive! (A description of Adam’s first impressions in Eden)

Creator and creation: God created man in a wonderful way and set him in a beautiful home.

Write up the opening sentence on the board: God breathed into Adam the breath of life and Adam became a
        living being.

Choose a child to be Adam and lie down at the front of the group. The teacher explain that God breathed life
        into Adam. What happens next?

Tackle each of the five senses in turn. Use the ideas of the children and try to capture the wonder and joy of
that time. Let the child act out such ideas. Record some key words on the board.

o He opened his eyes and saw ….. above him. (blue sky, green leaves)
o He felt ……(warmth on his body, soft grass beneath him)
o He sat up and saw …..(a small furry animal hoping nearby). (Encourage the children to describe rather
than name the animals – Adam named the animals later.)
o Adam could hear lots of sounds. (Little coloured creatures chirped and sang, others flew around and
               buzzed.)
o Adam stood up. He took one step, and another and another. He walked over to a …..(big brown animal
and stroked him gently). It felt …..
            o He smelled …..

Suggest children finish with ‘Suddenly, Adam knew he was not alone. He opened his mouth and said, “Thank
You God for giving me life!’”
