Science Y3/Y4 – Stewardship of God’s Creation – week 2
Some children may have time to go outside to look for lichens or could bring some from
home to the next lesson.
Crusty lichens – grey-green, like crazy paving, found on walls, trees, stones and
roofs. Air is fairly polluted.
Leafy lichens – flat rosettes of thin leaves on walls, stones, roofs, and trees.
There is little air pollution.
Shrubby lichens – greenish-grey flattened branches on trunks of trees. No air
pollution.
12. To end the lesson talk about ways in which Man can help to keep the air clean. (Using
unleaded petrol, smokeless fuels, etc)
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
The children will hopefully see that we have not always cared for the earth in the way we should,
but there are choices to be made which could affect the air quality around us. It is important that
the children realise that we all have responsibility for caring for the earth for future generations.
